Access the BioProject Submission Portal (login required) and follow the on-screen instructions to complete your registration. Once processed, you will have an accession number in the following format: PRJNA######.

If you already have a BioProject accession number, go to step 2. 

Submit eligible sequences in SP-GenBank using the Submission Type appropriate for your data type. Create separate submissions for each data type, then you can link multiple submissions under the same BioProject. 

When you reach the Source Modifiers step, provide the BioProject accession number (along with any other required fields on the page) using one of the following methods: 

• Web form 

Select the BioProject field and enter the PRJNA accession number. 
Used mostly for single-sequence submissions. 

• Editable table (Figure 1) 

Add a BioProject column and enter the PRJNA accession number. 
Used for multiple-sequence submissions with fewer than 1,000 sequences. 

• Upload a tab-delimited table 

Download a template table containing a column with sequence_IDs (and any required columns to fill in). Add a column with the BioProject header and populate it with the PRJNA accession number. Upload the completed table. 
Used for multiple-sequence submissions.

Access the BioProject submission portal (login required). Follow the directions provided to complete your submission. Once your submission is processed, you will have an accession number in the following format: PRJNA######. 

If you already have a BioProject accession number, go to step 2.  

Provide your GenBank accession numbers in the subject line of the email. The table (see Figure 2 for an example) can be a tab-delimited, plain-text file, or an Excel spreadsheet. It should contain: 

• GenBank accessions in the first column 
• BioProject Accession(s) in the second column
